About Wadsworth FISH
Wadsworth FISH was started in 1969, with the intent of assisting children in
need in the Wadsworth, Ohio school system.  In 1970, the Wadsworth FISH
Organization was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and
continues to operate in good standing in the State of Ohio.

For 40  years, Wadsworth FISH (also known by the Wadsworth community
as "FISH") has assisted Wadsworth and Wadsworth Township residents
in need of emergency or short-term financial assistance.  Currently, all
FISH income is derived through donations from businesses, churches,
foundations, organizations and individuals.  We have no funding or business
affiliation with any other organization.  We carry no overhead, so 100% of
these donations are disbursed to meet the financial needs of our clients.
We also operate a Christmas Adopt-A-Family program in order to make
Christmas a bit brighter for our community residents in need.  (NOTE:
Financial assistance and the Christmas Adopt-A-Family program are only
available to Wadsworth and Wadsworth Township residents.  Please see
below for other services available to those in communities surrounding
    Wadsworth.)

Operated by voice mail on a day-to-day basis by the Executive Director and
volunteers, and incorporating a board of 12 volunteer members of the
community, Wadsworth FISH works diligently with the St. Vincent de Paul
Society through Sacred Heart Church, Wadsworth Salvation Army, and
various Summit and Medina County agencies to help our neighbors in need
of financial assistance with rent, utility and heating bills, prescriptions,
gasoline, food, minor car repairs, and doctor visits among other things.

In September 2007, we opened a new FREE clothing and household items
store called Marian's Closet.  Now located at 134 College Street, this store
is for Wadsworth and residents in need in surrounding communities.  An
individual can come in and pick out 8 items for free, per person (must be
present), per visit (once a week).  Our hours of operation are 4:00 p.m. to 8:
    00 p.m. on Thursday evenings, and 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Fridays and
Saturdays.  Donations of gently used items are taken ONLY during those
store hours.  (Please do not leave any bags or boxes of items outside our
doors - that is a violation of city ordinances and subject to fine.)  The
telephone number for Marian's Closet is 330/336-3642.  (Volunteers are
    always welcomed!)

Our newest program is Wadsworth Community and Youth Gardens.  This is
a year-round program of planting, growing and harvesting vegetables for
distribution to families in need, local food pantries, and the Senior and Trinity
Farm Markets (to raise funds for future program needs).  It will also include a
year-round curriculum for school children, provide work for at-risk youth, and
be an intergenerational community effort.  Patterned after the Victory Gardens
of World War II, Wadsworth Community and Youth Gardens will be a
wonderful, new program for our residents.

We are also a supporter of a new food program for the area called

faith food project, a collaboration of churches and individuals in and
around Wadsworth utilizing Ohio farmers and distributors to bring quality,
           low-cost food to the area.

Thank you for visiting our site, and please feel free to contact FISH if you have
    any questions.

    Sincerely,
    Kris Turner
    Executive Director
