The Community Gardens Were A Success!
Wadsworth Community and Youth Gardens

With the help of adult and youth volunteers, our three gardens located at
Franklin School, Holmesbrook Meadows, and the Salvation Army, as well as
donations from Wholesome Harvest Farmer's Market and individuals from
Wadsworth and Rittman, we were able to provide 300 pounds of fresh,
locally-grown fruit and vegetables for about 100 households!

We wish to thank the Wadsworth Center for Older Adults, Nancy and
Laurie, for offering their location for our distribution site, and the seniors
who volunteered over the several weeks of distribution to make our clients
feel at home!  They received about 14 nosegays of flowers from the
Holmesbrook garden as a small token of our appreciation!  Your help and
hospitality were vital and greatly appreciated by all!

    Vegetables and fruits offered included:
Tomatoes (over 400 plants' worth - many varieties!)
Green, halapeno, red and sweet yellow peppers
    Eggplant
    Heirloom tomatoes
    cantalope
    radishes
    tomatillos
    bush beans
    crooked-neck squash
    zucchini
    onions
    watermelon
    pears
    black walnuts
    Lake Erie potatoes
    Lettuce

We shared the produce with clients through our distribution at the Senior
Center and through the Salvation Army food pantry, St. Vincent de Paul
food pantry, and The Sharing Center food pantry in Sharon Center (a large
portion of their clients are from Wadsworth).
